Earlier this year we were delighted to be asked to compose the music for Sean & Daro Flake It ’Til They Make It. It came around at a time where we working simultaneously on a few shows (read about them here) but having read the script, we knew we had to get involved!

We’d previously worked with Robert Softley Gale but this was a first with him as the director. It was a great creative team to be part of and the show was taking place at one of our favourite theatres in Scotland, the Traverse.

Laurie Motherwell (he’s not from there) had written a script that was funny, down to earth, touching and very relatable to a couple of gals from Glasgow like ourselves!

So how do you make music for a show about 2 young guys from Glasgow that find themselves with an ice cream van? Well….From chatting with Rob, we came up with a reference playlist to reflect the nostalgic feel of the show. We’re talking Blur, Pulp and Sash! Had we made a 90s dance classic before? Hell no but we were certainly up for giving it a go!

It turned out to be a really fun creative process for us. All the tracks were instrumental and dedicated to taking you through the action and emotion of the show. Some lighthearted, some more sombre but all in all we’re really proud of this little album and the journey it takes. We decided to leave out the numerous ice cream jingles that gave us some of the biggest laughs in the studio but maybe if the show runs again then you can go along and hear them for yourself!

Listen here and see if you can work out our musical inspirations!
